NO DRUGS DOWN THE DRAIN

Medicine flushed down the drain can end up in our local creeks, bays, and the ocean. While medicine is good for what ails you, it is important to dispose of leftover medication properly so it does not hurt the environment.

Visit www.nodrugsdownthedrain.org for more information.

NEW SYRINGE DISPOSAL REGULATIONS

Each year, 8 million people in the United States use more than 3 billion needles, syringes and lancets - also called sharps - to manage medical conditions at home. Improper disposal methods may lead to haphazard disposal habits and an increased community exposure to sharps. People at the greatest risk of being stuck by used sharps include garbage and sewer treatment workers, janitors and housekeepers and children.

Due to the many hazards that unsafe disposal practices present, effective September 1, 2008, the California Health and Safety Code prohibits anyone from knowingly placing home generated sharps waste in garbage, recycling and green waste containers for disposal. Sharps are accepted in an approved sharps disposal container at either the Sacramento North Area Recovery Station Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off www.sacgreenteam.com/hazardous/resident.htm or the Sacramento Recycling and Transfer Station Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off www.cityofsacramento.org/utilities/solid-recycling/residential.

EMERGENCY NOTIFICATION SYSTEM – CodeRED

Code RedRancho Murieta Community Services District has instituted the CodeRED Emergency Notification System – a high-speed telephone communication service for emergency notifications. This system allows us to telephone all or targeted areas of Rancho Murieta Community Services District in case of an emergency situation that requires immediate action (such as a boil water notice, law enforcement emergency or evacuation notices). The system is capable of dialing 50,000 phone numbers per hour.  It then delivers our recorded message to a live person or an answering machine, making three attempts to connect to any number.

Click here to update your contact information.

THIS SYSTEM WILL ONLY BE USED FOR EMERGENCY PURPOSES.
Examples of times when the CodeRED system could be utilized: drinking water contamination, evacuation notice and route, missing children, fires or floods, law enforcement emergency, chemical spill or gas leak and other emergency incidents where rapid and accurate notification is essential for life safety.
